What’s more important than a parcel getting where it needs to be on time? The parcel getting there on time, and safely. Not only are you losing hundreds of dollars with the damaged product but ultimately you’re damaging your relationship with the consumer, leading to even more loss in the future.
Making sure freight remains undamaged during transport is one of our top concerns, and here are our best tips for making sure everything goes according to plan.
The easiest way to help prevent damage is working proactively to make sure it doesn’t happen. Poorly packaged shipments are the number one cause of product damage and loss during transport.
Be aware of what you’re shipping-different types of packages have very different needs, and they need to be accommodated correctly. If you’re moving things with unique shapes, like furniture, take precautions to make sure all angles of the freight are protected.
Use the Right Packaging
While cheap packaging may seem more cost efficient in the short run, spending more on packaging up front could end up saving you thousands of dollars over time! Don’t be afraid to increase your budget in order to invest in quality packaging that can be used over and over.
Even minor upgrades, like using industrial-grade adhesives instead of generic packing tape, and trading cardboard pallets for wood, will save you headaches (and cash!) in the future.
Work with Your Carrier
As a consumer, the best way to reduce the risk of damaged freight is by communicating your needs to the company you’re using to transport it. Any additional information, such as f the parcels have a known history of getting damaged or have weak spots that need to be addressed, can only work in your favor if the shipper is aware of them.
As a carrier, staying up to date with the latest technology is the best way to prevent tragedy from striking, apart from communicating with your client. Giving them up-to-date information about the abilities of your fleet will help manage expectations and get both parties on the same page.
