The last two months have been slower than molasses at times, and at other times the days have passed in the blink of an eye. We continue to wish everyone the best and hope that you, your families, and your businesses are staying healthy and resilient.
The next phase
In March, most industries and our economy came to a screeching standstill in America and around the world. It was intense yet eerie. And after the initial month of the stay-at-home orders, things are slowly starting to open back up again, two months later. Many folks in America are getting back to work, which is great for the economy.
However, not everyone stayed home. Essential workers in the medical fields, transportation industries, food & agriculture, among others, continued to work. We had to. Because that’s our commitment to you—our partners and customers. We never stopped working. Here at Vestra Logistics, we’ve continued to provide our logistics and transportation services to serve our partners and customers. We’re problem solvers, and you better believe we’ve been solving problems! We’ve been here for you and will continue to support the economy and meet all of your 3PL shipping needs.
A new meaning to “essential” business
When you first think of “essential” employees, your thoughts may go to nurses, doctors, firefighters. We’re so grateful for all that everyone in the medical profession is doing to help people heal—while putting themselves and their families at risk. But that’s not all of the essential employees. Another very important—and often overlooked—essential profession is logistics and transportation. Sometimes these workers are taken for granted. You know that your goods and food arrive in the stores and at your doorstep, but you may not have thought about how it got there. Until the shelves are empty. Or your package doesn’t arrive on time. The people organizing and bringing you the things that you need (via various modes of transportation and delivery) are absolutely essential.
The trickle effects of closing the economy
Our number one priority is always for people to stay safe. We hope that our partners, carriers, and customers all over the world are protecting themselves the best that they can from this virus. Because of the circumstances, the economy has been affected by the shutdowns, and this has impacted our industry in more ways than many people can imagine.
- Trade activity across the globe has changed. Everything from border wait times to port activity has been affected.
- Transportation activity has been much more variable; normally it’s predictable.
- Airport activity has sharply declined.
- Roads are far less congested; fuel is cheaper.
- Rest areas have been closed, making it difficult for truckers to take proper breaks, shower, or consume regular meals.
What’s the recipe for a great logistics and transportation company? Stellar communication + customer service. It’s so important for everyone in the process to be on the same page; we can’t emphasize this enough. When you work with us here at Vestra, know that this is our strong suit. We believe in clear, transparent communication during all points of the transportation process, from order to pickup to delivery.
The logistics and transportation industry is the backbone of America. Without us, things fall apart. Thankfully, we have a strong foundation. We’re resilient. We’re doing everything we can to keep you safe and provide the same great level of service that you’ve come to know from us. Even during these trying times, we want to show that we’re still here, we’re still strong, and we’re ready to safely serve you.
We won’t sugar coat it—the COVID-19 pandemic has been stressful and scary for everyone. We won’t pretend that every family or every business has been affected in the same way because we haven’t. What we do know is that everyone has been affected in some way. We’re doing our best to be positive, continue to provide the high level of service that you’ve come to expect from us, and be understanding and empathetic of everyone’s situation, knowing that it’s affecting everyone differently.
Strategy is the path forward
We’re resilient, and we’re planning for a bright future. There have been some speed bumps this year for everyone, but together we are stronger, and with strategy, planning, and continuous improvement, we’re the shipping solution you can count on.
